Rancho De Los Animales

2009_0131random0045

Rancho De Los Animales is a ranch where physically and mentally disabled indviduals are able to go and ride horses as well as visit with the many other animals the ranch has. As a use of physical therapy, Rancho De Los Animales is a non profit organization that serves the central coast area. The sisters spent the day grooming and cleaning around the ranch.

Growing Grounds
Growing Grounds

Growing Grounds is a local nursery that helps the mentally handicap learn different essential skills. The sisters volunteered and helped install irrigation tubing to the plants. We had a blast and it wa a great way for us to give back to the community.

Sigma Alpha's National Philanthropy is "Ag. in the Classroom."

A local classroom, with approximatly 30 kids, is contacted, and sisters from the Kappa Chapter plan out an activity to teach the students.

Our most recent activity was with a 7th/8th grade ELM class at Laguna Middle School in San Luis Obispo. In order to connect with the students, the Kappa Chapter Sisters related agriculture to pizza and all its contents. The sudents listened intently, asked questions, and then took a quiz. To reward their efforts, the Kappa Chapter bought the class pizza and drinks. It was a hit! The students enjoyed the lesson very much.

Keep posted for our next activity!
